There is nothing like the grandeur of nature to help put things into perspective. Standing amid a forest of bamboo towering high above, the world suddenly seems large and full of possibilities. The 4-mile Pipiwai Trail packs a lot of magnificent sights into such a short hike, including the beautiful Bamboo Forest in Hawaii. Before reaching the forest, you’ll pass by the 200-foot Makahiku Falls thundering into the canyon below, as well as a massive ancient banyan tree.
As you step into the beginning of the Bamboo Forest in Maui, the breeze slows to a gentle rustle, and the soft creaking of the towering bamboo creates a peaceful serenity. A wooden boardwalk has been built through this section, making the mud a non-issue. As the boardwalk winds through the Bamboo Forest, photographers will find plenty of opportunities to capture fantastic shots of this beautiful section of the hike. The bamboo towers high above, nearly blocking the sky and leaving you with only its various shades of green as far as the eye can see. When you finally emerge from this magical forest, you are treated to views of the magnificent 400-foot Waimoku Falls. After stopping for a picnic near the falls, you will retrace your steps back through the Bamboo Forest to the start of the trail.
