Winter in Maui is probably a little different than winter in your area! We still experience balmy days with highs in the 70s, palm trees swaying in the ocean breezes, and the sounds of waves crashing against the beach—it’s pretty much the same here in winter as it is in summer, spring, and fall! If your winter days are dreary, icy, and cold, this is the time that you can change it all with a visit to paradise. This guide to a winter Maui vacation getaways will ensure your winter season will soon be bright and cheery.

We all need to forget some things sometimes!

Exciting Winter Adventures

Popular winter activities in Maui will also vary from ones in the colder states. We don’t ski, snowshoe, or sled, but we do go whale watching from the middle of December all the way through the month of May. The humpback whale is more commonly sighted in December, January, and February, and there are whale watching cruises you can take or simply find a spot on land near the water and keep your eyes peeled! At Christmas, we light the banyan tree instead of your typical Douglas fir, and this annual event takes place on December 7 at Banyan Tree Park in West Maui. The PGA tour comes to paradise January 1st through 5th with PGA TOUR Sentry Tournament of Champions at the Plantation Golf Course in Kapalua, but you don’t have to wait till next year to play a round; golf is the perfect winter activity on Maui!
