Hit the Beach
If you’re staying in one of our West Maui condo rentals, it will be easy to spend long days at the beach either relaxing or trying out some of the island’s many water sports. Since our condos are located proximal to some of the island’s most beautiful beaches, you can enjoy the ultimate convenience.
One of the must-see beaches along Maui’s sunny West Coast is Kaanapali Beach. The beautiful Kaanapali Beach consistently makes every list of top Maui beaches. This stunning shoreline stretches for an astounding three miles, providing the ultimate oceanside playground. If you’ve been dreaming of taking a romantic sunset stroll or getting in some exercise with a jog down on the sand, this could very well be the place to make it happen. Kaanapali’s west facing shoreline makes it an ideal place to take in a vibrant Maui sunset.
During the day, the beachfront comes alive with a variety of activity options. And if you’d rather enjoy some tranquility, it can usually be found if you’re willing to walk down the sand to find your own peaceful spot. Activity kiosks located on the beachfront at many of the hotels and resorts mean that access to boogie boards, snorkel gear, stand up paddle boards, and kayaks are never far away! If you’re driving to the beach, centering yourself near Whaler’s Shopping Village will give you easy access to shops and restaurants from the beachfront.
Families traveling with toddlers who want some time to let the kids run free without as much concern of being knocked down by big waves may want to check out Baby Beach in Lahaina. While this beach isn’t as visually stunning as many of Maui’s west coast beaches, it does allow for more expansive play for little children. The reef protected water creates a shallow, tranquil swimming area along the shore where kids can wade and play. And though the sand isn’t the silky white sand you’ll find elsewhere, it does offer nice views of the offshore islands.
If you’re up for the drive, another aptly named Baby Beach is located in Maui’s North Shore town of Spreckelsville and provides additional safe, excellent swimming conditions for keiki and an even nicer sandy shoreline where parents can lean back, soak in the views, and keep an eye on the kids.
Top Maui Attractions
When you base your stay in a condo along Maui’s sunny west coast, it’s quite tempting to spend your days lounging along the many white sand beaches located here or participating in some of the water activities which are easily accessible. However, if you decide to venture further afield, Maui is home to some dramatic natural attractions that are well worth a visit.
The Road to Hana is a fun day trip that takes you along the island’s picturesque northeastern coastline. Far less inhabited than other coastal areas in Maui, the Road to Hana is in many ways a step back in time to Old Hawaii. One-lane bridges, countless waterfalls, black sand beaches, and bamboo forests dot the way, providing numerous lookouts and stop-off points. It’s best to allow for plenty of time to complete this trip so that more time can be spent getting out of your vehicle and exploring the natural features along the way. Explore the black sand and cliffside trails at Waianapanapa State Park and take a dip in the cool, refreshing pools at the base of one of the many waterfalls you will see along the way. The Road to Hana is the ultimate island road trip!
Perhaps one of the most well-known natural features on Maui aside from its beaches is the Haleakala Crater, situated in Haleakala National Park. Watching the sunrise from the summit area is a popular activity in Haleakala National Park – so popular, in fact, that it requires making a booking first through the park’s website. From this altitude, watching the sun come up through layers of clouds below is a spectacular sight. Even if you don’t make a booking for sunrise, the views from the Haleakala summit are well worth the drive. If you simply want to enjoy the views, lookout points offer sweeping views across the crater.
Those who want a more active experience should consider hiking on some of the 30 miles of trails access from the summit area. The Keonehe‘ehe‘e (Sliding Sands) Trail traverses into the crater itself, descending approximately 2,500 feet over four miles to reach the crater floor. For just sampling of this experience, it’s also possible to hike just 0.5-miles roundtrip along this trail to the first overlook. If you plan to visit Haleakala during your Maui vacation, be sure to bring along cold weather gear, as the summit area can experience cold temperatures!
