Swim alongside parrotfish, rainbowfish, green sea turtles, and other fascinating creatures in the vibrant waters of Honolua Bay. Honolua Bay is part of a Marine Life Conservation District, and the prohibition of fishing means abundant wildlife viewing for snorkelers. A river inlet can cause the water to be murky near the shoreline, but those who are willing to swim out a bit will be rewarded with clear waters and plenty of fish to observe. Snorkeling in this bay is best along the west (left) end of the beach, where you can swim along the rocky outcropping and around Kalaepiha Point. For safety, be sure to wear fins when you swim far from shore. Due to the rocky conditions and murky water close to shore, swimming is best saved for beaches other than Honolua Bay.
In addition to great snorkeling, Honolua Bay is also a surfing hotspot for experienced surfers during winter months when there tend to be large swells. This is not a good spot for beginners, but those who want to watch the action can get a good view from the overlook on the east cliff.

Honolua Bay is located 20 miles north of downtown Lahaina. Parking is limited to a couple of small roadside areas from which you’ll take a short trail down to the beach.
