Located approximately 25 minutes south of Kihei at the end of Makena Road, it will take some effort to get here. The road winds through lava fields from the last eruption of Haleakala 200-500 years ago and exploring off road by foot along much of this route is prohibited to preserve the area. The entrance leading into the water is quite rocky, so water shoes are recommended. Experienced snorkelers will find a treasure trove of marine life to be discovered within the 807 acres of submerged of marine ecosystems. Swim among an abundance of tropical fish and coral and be sure to wear reef-safe sunscreen to protect this fragile environment.
