Located in a former pineapple factory at 903 Haliimaile Rd. in Makawao, the shop offers a gallery and a shop where glass blowing artist can make you a beautiful glass turtle or volcano right in front of you. They have some truly imaginative sculptures here, such as glass “waves,” colorful glass sea shells and glass storms which contain silver and gold designs that are on the inside of an abstract piece of glass art work. If you prefer your art to be functional, you can watch them make a large, colorfully decorated lava vase, a salad bowl, or crystal-encrusted lamp.
If you are in Hawaii to celebrate a wedding or family reunion, you can have the glass blowers entertain your guests. About the Artists at Makai Glass Creations
Makai Glass Creations was founded by Randy Schaffer and Justin Brown. Randy has a degree in outdoor wilderness and glass blowing from Southern Illinois University. He honed his skills at studios around Portland, Oregon and then headed to Maui. Justin began blowing glass when his artist mother gifted him with a class when he was a child. He worked in studios around Seattle and at the acclaimed Gler i Bergvik Studio in Iceland. The pair founded the studio in 2010.
